Neptune is willing to improve its security constantly like we showed in the past by using HTTPS on our website with Letsencrypt certificates. 

This time around we also changed our default repository server to use HTTPS. With the update to version 4.5.4 of the neptune-sourceslist package we changed the default repository to point to the https://download.neptuneos.com/ server. This also means that you need to have the package apt-transport-https installed to make it work. The update should automatically pull and install this package aswell.

The old proindi repository is available for approximately 1 month to ease the change and allow all users to upgrade to the new repository.

 

Neptune is featured as Distribution of the week in the last weeks Linux Action Show. 
Its just a short talk about the latest Plasma 5 march ISO nevertheless they talk about the advantages of the lowmemory mode.

KDE Frameworks 5.32 is now available for all our Plasma 5 users.

This version comes with the usual fixes in packages like KArchive, KIO, KPackage and more.

Besides that there was some restructuring in the packages KDoctools, Kfilemetadata and others.

We now offer for all our Plasma 5 users of Neptune the updated KDE Applications version 16.12.3. 

This is another bugfix maintenance release fixing bugs mainly in the archiver application Ark, Kate aswell as Kdenlive. 

We are proud to announce a fresh new Update for our Plasma 5 version of Neptune 4.5. 

This version brings the latest and greatest of the Plasma 5 world to you. This includes Plasma 5.8.5 together with the desktop fix for contextmenu aswell as Dolphin 16.12.2, Kdenlive 16.12.2, Chromium 56, Icedove 45.6. 

Besides that it ships the newest KDE Frameworks 5.31.

This all sits on the base of the latest LTS Kernel 4.9.12.

With this version we are starting a transition phase from Neptune 4.5.x to Neptune 5. With the slogan every details matter we try to improve any little feature month after month. 

Lowmemory Modus

This month marks the comeback of the Lowmemory mode. This one offers a lowmemory desktop based on Enlightenment DR16. Besides that we worked on improving the default live boot menu ISOLinux which includes many bugfixes in the builtin help. You are now able to start memtest again after entering memtest or if you accidentally bootet with attached live boot stick you can enter disk1 to start your system from primary harddrive/ssd.

The failsafe mode now includes the bootoption nomodeset which prevents loading of the kernel video driver.

A new update is available for Neptune users of Plasma 5. This brings a new version of Qt 5.7.1 with plenty of nice little features and bugfixes.

Besides that we also updated KDE Frameworks to the latest version 5.31. Included in this version is a fix for file copying processes not preserving the file attributes aswell as an updated Breeze icon theme.  It also already includes a fix for the eject/unmount button in the device notifier.

KDE Applications 16.12.2 is now available for Plasma 5 users of Neptune.

This brings in several bugfixes and improvements for the file manager Dolphin that make it more robust and faster. Besides that the archiving application Ark fixes a bug that lead to crashes and the application Konsole also got several bugfixes to address issues. 

Kdenlive was updated again and brings in several fixes to improve overall stability and improving video editing features.

Update: The ISO was updated to fix an issue reported by some users. 

A new update for our Plasma 5 user landed in our repo. This includes KDE Frameworks 5.30 with several bugfixes and new features like for example new icons in Breeze. 
Besides that we also updated the KDE Applications Dolphin, Ark and Kdenlive to version 16.12.1 which also include several bugfixes and new features.

Last but not least we again updated Plasma 5.8.5 to include a patch for the annoying right click on desktop icon bug which not only showed the context menu but also performed a left click and executed the marked file.
